The City of Calgary invites all Calgarians to participate in an online survey from August 26 to September 30, 2024, to share your feedback and help shape short-term rental (STR) regulations. The purpose of this study is to examine market characteristics, public perceptions, operational challenges, and the impact short-term rentals have on our housing market.
“Feedback from Calgarians enhances our understanding of challenges and opportunities in Calgary’s short-term rental market,” says Antonio Faiola, Manager, Business Experience. “We will incorporate the input we hear from Calgarians and present recommendations to Council in December.”
As part of a multi-year study in collaboration with the University of Calgary (UCalgary) through the Urban Alliance partnership, the Short-Term Rental Study will provide The City with the necessary information to implement appropriate regulations for Calgary. Phase 1 of the study, launched in October 2023, included an online survey, focus groups, and one-on-one interviews with interested parties, operators, and hosts. The “What We Heard” report from Phase 1 is available at engage.calgary.ca/STR.
“It’s important we engage Calgarians as we continue to evolve our regulations to align with The City’s priorities related to housing, economic development, downtown revitalization, hospitality, and tourism,” adds Faiola.
